Welcome to The Musical Foodie Introducing…the place where we give you the low-down on the most exciting new artists to listen out for right now!
First up is twenty-something Londoner Carmody, a folk-pop singer-songwriter whose poetic and moody songs lend themselves very well to rainy, chilled out days spent indoors. She’s also just as able to take-on a Timbaland noughties classic, The Way I Are, with Brit songwriter Leo Stannard, or upbeat house vibes on Courage’s (a.k.a the guy who produced Rae Black and Stormzy’s epic My Hood) debut album, Get Some Courage Vol.1.
Fans of the production prodigy that is Tom Misch will be familiar with Carmody from their Out to Sea EP, a dreamy collection of duets that attracted a lot of attention and lead to a video of the pair jamming and hanging out on London rooftops in the video for ‘So Close’. Carmody also contributed to one of our favourite tracks on Misch’s Beat Tape 2 album, ‘Wander With Me’ – a rather lovely fusing of ethereal vocal and Misch’s signature funky guitar.
Since then, Carmody has released her own EP, Skin, a trio of paired-back love songs, and two darker and vibier singles, ‘The Light Of Me’ and ‘Before You Knew Me’. Her ability to write powerful lyrics to gentle sounds has already resulted in a sell-out gig at London’s The Waiting Room, leaving the rest of us melancholic music lovers in hope of more performances in the future (and even more Tom Misch collaborations, please).
