Introducing: Shakka

In need of a new artist to get excited about?  Look no further than singer, songwriter and producer extraordinaire, Shakka.

You may well recognize Shakka’s smooth vocals from various collabs over the years with Grime heavy-players Wretch 32, Giggs and Ghetts.  Not to mention his latest hit single with AlunaGeorge, the infectious ‘Man Down’.

He’s been a key player in the London scene for a long time now, running his own studio and carefully curating his artistry.  A former touring vocalist with Basement Jaxx, Shakka’s range is pretty impressive: jumping from Stevie Wonder-esque vibes on ‘Just Want to See You’, to political commentary on ‘Inner London, and full-on afrobeats on the gorgeous ‘Take Over’.

Whatever the genre though, Shakka always brings a unique dose of cheekiness and undeniable energy.  He’s also hilarious on the gram, where he interacts with his fans (‘The Tribe’) and produces a weekly ‘Tribe Tuesdays’ live feature – one hour to write and produce a song, which is then uploaded to SoundCloud.  It’s testament to his talent that they’re normally always sure-fire TUNES.

Last week, Shakka officially signed with Black Butter Records – the home of the likes of Rudimental, J Hus and The Godfather of Grime himself, Wiley.  He’s also just put out a video of his new sultry single, Sugar Cane.  Give it a listen here and don’t be surprised if you soon find yourself part of The Shakka Tribe.
